History of Stanley
The original town site of Stanley was made up of forty acres. W.C. Asher was a major promoter for the new community. When the first settlers arrived in Stanley, they had to travel into Moriarty for their mail. Eventually, the Stanley Post Office was established with Henry Tarr as the first postmaster.
The New Mexico Central Railroad had a siding known as Stanley, named for an official and engineer of the railroad. The growing village took the name of the siding and soon became known as Stanley.
