
Dennis Higgins started his musical career in 1965 at the age of 15 in Hays, KS. He worked as a full–time musician from 1965 to 1980, performing across the United States from Boston to Honolulu. Dennis has been nationally recognized for his ability to combine education with music. In 1980, he earned his teaching certificate and started teaching for the Albuquerque Public Schools in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Over the next 30 years, he combined his musical skills with his teaching skills and composed and professionally recorded 54+ songs for children (click here to listen to “song samples” of his original songs for children - https://clyp.it/r0mzs4qf).
In 2007, he was a featured educator on “A Chance To Read” WETA Public Broadcasting, Chicago, IL and Washington DC and demonstrated his ability to combine education with music for children. In 2017, he was inducted as a “Pioneer In Education” into the Hall of Fame for “Twice-Exceptionalities” in Studio City, CA. His song “They Said She Would Never Read or Write” showcases the dilemma experience by many children who are identified as “twice-exceptional.”
He worked as a solo artist from 2010 to 2020 in Albuquerque, NM and is the producer/conductor for the CyberBands 1 & 2 (click here to listen to the CyberBands 1 & 2 (https://clyp.it/ia0gs4zf; https://clyp.it/3lh3vvvy). Dennis continues to play music and record with the trio WCL. WCL meets annually on a rotational basis in New Mexico, Delaware, and Florida.
