Roger Dale started performing in 1975 in and around Oklahoma up to the Black Hills of South Dakota. He slept in his car, and spent a lot of time at phone booths calling up steak-houses and bars, looking for the next gig -- four hours a night, five or six nights a week. His set lists includes a lot of Kris Kristofferson, Jim Croce, Jerry Jeff Walker, Waylon Jennings, and Roger Miller songs.
Roger Dale is a songwriter/performer, who has had guitars stolen in 4 different states. He has shaken Kris Kristofferson's hand, twice. He's had the pleasure of listening to his songs on the radio, receiving royalty checks and having other people spend their own money to record his songs. His proudest moment may have been when someone chose a line from one of his tunes to put on their loved one's headstone.
Along the way, he was hired to be the lead singer and guitar player for a country rock band and a big band tuxedo band. He started and owned a music store and sound company based in Ruidoso in 1980 and sold it five years later. During these years, he slowly learned about how different and separate music was from the music business. He hated the music business, but could not exist without music. So, he decided to not be a juke-box and to play only his songs, the ones he wrote and the ones that mean the most. Afterwards, the songs began to flow quickly and have continued to keep him interested and alive since.
There is a saying he once read that pretty much sums up why he write songs. “A sorrow shared is halved and a joy shared is doubled”. He promises the next song he writes will be the best one.
