
David Meriwether
This program will focus on the History of David Meriwether New Mexico’s third Governor. David Meriwether served as New Mexico’s third governor between the years of 1854 and 1857. Meriwether was born in Virginia in 1800 and was a cousin of Meriwether Lewis of the Lewis and Clark Expedition which no doubt started him on his early life of adventure.
In one adventure, David Meriwether and a companion ventured into New Mexico and while fur trapping in the Taos area, the men had been ambushed by Mexican troops and witnessed the violent deaths of their companions in the attack.
