Jim Kono
Jim Kono (James Konopasek) is the son of hard-working Czech and Irish Americans. He grew up in a Southern Oregon mill town. As a teenager, he was influenced by the Beatles, Doobies, James Taylor, Steely Dan, The Eagles, and Merle Haggard. More recently, he has been touched by songwriting greats such as Lyle Lovett, Chris Stapleton, and Lucinda Williams. He also loves the music of Little Big Town.
In 2010, he wrote his first song "Poker Playing Fool," a tribute to his father, Frank B. Konopasek. Jim released his first CD in 2014 entitled "Twisted Country People" produced by Dennis Coats in Sandpoint, Idaho. Also in 2014, Jim had the privilege of performing is original song “Passion” at the Bluebird Café’s songwriter night in Nashville.
Jim has released a number of original tunes inspired by his work in the criminal justice system and featured on his music website, Spotify, and ReverbNation. In the Fall 2019, working with producer Steve Goodie in Nashville, Jim released his second CD entitled, “Truths, Half-truths & Lies.” He earned a runner-up honorable mention spot in the American Songwriter contest for his song, “My Alexa.”
In early 2021, Jim released a new single entitled, “Buddy,” – a song cowritten with his wife, Victoria, about their son, his amazing horse, and their relationship.
Jim and his music duo partner, Jeff Chapman (Rockslide) will be performing at several Albuquerque East Mountain and Central New Mexico venues in 2021. Please check out Jim’s music and performance schedule via the links listed below:
