If not for author Lesley Poling-Kempes and her latest book Ladies of the Canyon, plus her persistent research into the life of Carol Bishop Stanley, Stanley’s role in the creation of Ghost Ranch in northern New Mexico might have been forever lost. As in later years, artist Georgia O’Keeffe turned the ranch and surrounding landscape into her artist trademark and downplayed Stanley’s role in its creation and early development.
