DIVERSITY STATEMENT and REPORT

As a public radio station, KXNM is committed to reflecting the diversity of the communities and listeners we serve in Central New Mexico.  KXNM values its Directors, Community Advisory Committee members, donors and employees from all walks of life.   We support and follow nondiscrimination policies, ethics policies, and are fully committed to equal opportunity, affirmative action and diversity.  KXNM seeks to create a diverse community within our workplace.

KXNM is an equal opportunity employer. Applicants and employees are considered for positions and are evaluated without regard to mental or physical disability, gender, age, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, national origin, and economic status or any protected Federal, State or Local status unrelated to the performance of the work involved. We also endeavor to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve in the composition of our Governing Board, and recruit candidates who add diversity in ethnicity, age, experience and gender, as well as needed skill sets.

We will strive:
·  To recruit, develop and retain a diverse workforce that is representative of the communities we serve.
·  To provide equal opportunity in employment.
·  To educate management and staff in best practices for maintaining an inclusive and diverse environment for all persons.
·  To recruit and retain diverse Governing Board and Community Advisory Committee.

As of January 1, 2016, KXNM’s gender/ethnic composition is as follows:

  • Contractor Sales Staff (1 employee): 1 woman, 1 minority
  • Part Time Paid Staff (2 employees): 2 women
  • Full Time Voluntary Staff (5 employees): 2 women, 3 men
  • Part Time Voluntary Staff (7 employees): 2 women, 5 men, 4 minority
  • Board of Directors (13 members): 5 women, 8 men; 1 minority
  • Community Advisory Committee (6 members): 6 women: 2 minority)

During the next year, KXNM will seek to increase its diversity by participating in the following initiatives:

  • Include individuals representing diverse groups in internships designed to provide meaningful professional level experience in order to reflect the diversity of our community and further public broadcasting’s commitment to education. KXNM will seek these individuals by working with the University of New Mexico by speaking to journalism and broadcasting classes.

  • Include qualified diverse candidates in any slate of candidates for the KXNM Board of Directors and KXNM Community Advisory Committee. The Board will be tasked specifically with recruiting diverse candidates.
