 RADIO INTERNSHIPS
What is a Radio Internship?

KXNM radio internships will provide you with an opportunity to combine your hard earned book learning with some necessary real world experience. KXNM offers one of the most hands-on programs specifically designed to make use of the talent and motivation in every intern. We offer a multitude of exciting opportunities for our interns, from the broadcast booth to behind-the-scenes and everything in between. As an intern, you'll experience first-hand how a radio station operates with sales, talent, hosting and producing.

Timeline
Internships can start at anytime and can last from 4 weeks to 1 year.  Our Summer internship program for students runs 4-8 weeks.

How to Apply for an Internship
Applications will be accepted and interviewing will begin 1-2 months prior to the start of the program.   Submit a cover letter, along with your resume and complete the following application questions.

1. Please tell us how you first heard about the KXNM Internship Program.

2. What are you hoping to achieve through your internship?

Pay and Time Expectations
Interns at KXNM receive a stipend funded through various governmental programs. Requirements for interns usually include a 16-40 hour workweek commitment, and attendance at weekend and after-hour station events.

Common Tasks for Interns

Helps Production
Radio interns are expected to set-up the studio for broadcasts with scripts for sponsorships and PSA’s; supplying the radio host with reading and research material; and recording specified segments for future use. In addition, an intern can be expected to maintain the station's website.

Gives Creative Input
An intern showing creative potential is asked to help develop segments. In conjunction with producers, an intern will brainstorm new ideas, write and execute material like the community calendar.

Promotes Station
Radio stations typically do a lot of public relations work with schools, communities and sponsors to promote the station. An intern's promotional duties may involve writing and editing public service announcements. It's important to the intern's success to represent the station in a lively, positive manner.

Executes Administrative Duties
Interns will communicate with sponsors and listeners through e-mail and telephone calls. Responsibilities also include creating station literature, along with general office duties, such as emptying trash cans and tidying the office.

About KXNM 88.7 FM
Our Mission is to provide multi-media communication broadcast signals to the citizens of Torrance County to unite the community by making available local emergency and educational broadcasting, promoting personal development and quality of life enhancement.
