    NEW TRANSMITTER

            UPGRADE
KXNM Radio Station Gets a Major Equipment Upgrade

KXNM 88.7 FM, The Voice of Central New Mexico, is installing a new broadcast transmitter and other equipment needed to provide high quality and uninterrupted broadcasts to its listeners in the Estancia Valley.

Art Swenka, KXNM President, recently announced that the station has received a major grant from the State of New Mexico to replace its aging radio transmitter, which was built in 1987.  Swenka said that storm related outages have been a problem, and because repair parts are no longer made for this older model, it is difficult to keep it operational.
Nevertheless,  Swenka and other volunteers have found replacement parts and kept the station on the air.

The new transmitter, made by Nautel is state-of-the-art equipment with multiple built-in backup systems, providing easy on-air and remote control service and maintenance.  The new broadcast transmitter promises to deliver high quality and uninterrupted broadcasts to our listeners.

KXNM, The Voice of Central New Mexico, is a rural, largely volunteer-operated public and community radio station. Swenka, also noted that building the station has been an enormous undertaking for the Estancia Valley and represents the commitment of thousands of volunteer hours and tens of thousands in donated funds.

KXNM exists because the people of the Estancia Valley consider local radio to be a priceless resource for information, education and cultural enrichment including:
  • emergency and weather notifications,
  • public health information,
  • education through a variety of locally produced programs.
  • local economic development by promoting local businesses
  • cultural enrichment respecting the valley’s historic ranch and farming roots.
